Vegetable oils and butters

Olive oil – The skincare benefits of olive oil have been used by the Egyptians, Greeks, Phoenicians and Romans for centuries. A monounsaturated fatty acid abundant in Vitamins A, D, E and K acts to neutralise free radicals within the skin and repair cell surfaces. Olive oil contains high concentrations of squalene which penetrates deep into the skin keeping it moist, lubricated and supple. Our handcrafted soaps only use cold pressed Olive oil mixed with Coconut oil and Avocado, Hemp, Macadamia, Almond, and Jojoba oils to ensure your skin breathes and retains its moisture.

Cocoa butter – is the natural fat extracted from the cacao bean of the cacao tree. It contains cacao mass polyphenol (CMP) a substance that inhibits the production of the immunoglobulin IgE which is known to aggravate and accelerate skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis. Vitamin E and omega 3 oils in cocoa butter helps keep skin moisturised.

Coconut oil – has strong antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, and antiviral properties which aid in the healing and repairing of the skin and can prevent premature ageing and degenerative diseases. It also aids in the absorption of vitamins and minerals making the skin smoother and even. Offers effective and natural sun protection than most toxic conventional sun screens by blocking the damaging effects of UV radiation and formation of free radicals.

Jojoba oil – regarded as the oil that most closely resembles human sebum – the skin’s natural oil. Contains high concentrations of several minerals, essential fatty acids, Vitamins E, B and myristic acid that promote healing of the skin and prevent moisture loss.  Is useful for treating superficial facial lines, psoriasis, skin itches, eczema and wrinkles, to improve skin texture.  Also suitable for acne prone skin as it won’t clog pores and discourages the growth of bacteria.

Avocado oil – well known for its healing, anti-bacterial and anti-wrinkle properties. Contains high concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, D and E and sterolin which is known to facilitate the softening of the skin and reduce the incidence of age spots. It helps moisturise the skin, increases collagen production and treats a variety of skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis.

Hemp oil – Rich in Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9, Vitamins A, C, E and D, and beneficial amounts of amino acids Hemp Seed Oil has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities the soothe and revitalise the skin. It increases the skin elasticity and water retention capacity in tissues making it highly beneficial for dry, tired, and dehydrated skin and can improve conditions like eczema and acne.

Macadamia oil – contains one of the highest sources of Palmitoleic Fatty Acids vital for delaying skin and cell aging (as our skin ages it rapidly becomes depleted in Palmitoleic Acid contributing to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles). Has been shown to slow the signs of ageing and has also been used to improve the appearance of scars, sunburn and other minor skin irritations.

Almond oil – contains high levels of fatty acids that serve as a natural emollient for the skin which can help lock in moisture. Is a natural face exfoliator that assists with removing dead skin cells and stimulating the growth of healthier skin. Also helps dissolve the sebum that your skin produces, creating cleaner skin and pores, and helping to get rid of acne.

Rice bran oil – full of antioxidants, vitamins B and E, and wonderful natural emollients, this ingredient not only hydrates skin, but protects from UV rays and helps ward off signs of aging.

Rosehip oil – full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are known to correct dark spots and hydrate dry, itchy skin, all while reducing scars and fine lines. Is high in Vitamin C and linoleic acid (LA) gamma linoleic acid (GLA) which are essential for healthy hair, scalp and skin.

Evening Primrose oil – rich in (omega-6) fatty acids, including linoleic acid (LA) gamma linoleic acid (GLA) that are known to inhibit bacterial growth and reduce inflammation. Because of its ability to dilute sebum production, evening primrose oil is good at calming acne flare-ups. Is high in anti-oxidants making it suitable for reducing fine lines and rejuvenating dry skin, eczema and psoriasis.

Neem oil – contains exceptionally high levels of antioxidants, fatty acids, carotenoids and vitamin E that rejuvenate the skin’s cells and restore elasticity and help defend the skin against age-promoting free radicals. Neem Oil is ideal for acne-prone skin because it can help to soothe irritation and inflammation, clear up pimples and remove bacteria from the surface of the skin. It can also relieve eczema symptoms, psoriasis and treat nail fungus, ringworm & athletes foot.

Essential oils

Lavender – is the most useful and versatile oil for therapeutic purposes. On the skin, lavender oil tones and revitalizes and is useful for all types of skin problems such as abscesses, acne, oily skin, boils, burns, sunburn, wounds, psoriasis, lice, insect bites, stings and also acts as an insect repellent. It has antiseptic and analgesic properties which ease the pain of a burn and prevent infection, and cytophylactic properties that promote rapid healing and help reduce scarring.

Frankincense – has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits, making it ideal for acne-prone skin. It is also a natural toner, decreasing the appearance of pores and evening skin-tone. It is cytophylactic, which means that it helps protect existing cells and encourage new cell growth. For this reason, it helps reduce wrinkles, tighten skin, and reduce the appearance of scars.

Ylang Ylang – a rich and floral fragrance that can assist with normalising sebum production making it useful for dry, oily or combination skin.  It also helps regenerate skin cells, smoothing fine lines and improving skin elasticity.

Sandalwood – helps soften skin by increasing and restoring its ability to retain moisture. It can relieve localized rashes, inflammation, and itching; assist in fading scar tissue; offer toning and astringent properties; help heal eczema and psoriasis; soothe acne and shrink pimples and reduce dandruff.

Geranium – helps improve skin elasticity and tighten skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.  It also promotes blood circulation to the areas where it is applied, helping to heal bruises, broken capillaries, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, ringworm, and other skin conditions. Assists with regulating oil production and reducing acne breakouts.

Rose – contains several therapeutic compounds known to promote healing, especially antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compounds. Helps refine skin texture and tone, and can be helpful with managing skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. Rose is known to lower the concentration of the stress hormone cortisol in the body (cortisol can have a profound impact on your skin).

Aloe vera – has been used for centuries due to the beneficial effect it has on the skin. Containing Folic Acid, Carotene, Vitamins A, B, C and E (natural antioxidants), Aloe Vera is deeply soothing, smoothing and moisturising for the skin. It encourages skin rejuvenation, healing of wounds and treatment of sunburn.  Ideal for treating dry and damaged skin, acne, and dandruff.

Chamomile – proven for its calming, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and skin healing properties. Useful for everything from calming burns, inflamed acne and rosacea to hydrating dry or itchy skin. Chamomile is one of the gentlest essential oils available, even approved for prenatal use.

Lemon myrtle – studies have demonstrated lemon myrtle to be more anti-bacterial and anti-fungal than Tea Tree oil. Suitable for treating conditions like tinea, eczema, warts, cold sores and acne.

Lemon – rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants to helps fight free radicals, boost collagen and increase skin elasticity. Also has antiseptic and soothing properties to help reduce acne.

Grapefruit – contains antioxidant and anti-microbial properties that effectively helps to destroy bacteria, viruses and fungal strains. Excellent purifier of congested, oily or acne prone skin. Is commonly used as a natural preservative in skin care products.

Cedarwood –benefits the skin by its sedating ability which relieves itching. Its astringent action is great for acne, oily skin, as well as for hair, dandruff, dermatitis and psoriasis.

Patchouli – promotes new cell growth and smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles making it particularly useful for ageing skin. Contains antiseptic, antifungal, and antibacterial properties that may benefit skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and acne.

Muds and Clays

Dead Sea Mud – contains high concentrations of magnesium, calcium, sodium, phosphates, bromides and other minerals thought to stimulate blood circulation, unclog pores and remove impurities for healthy and glowing skin. Also helps with easing various skin ailments such as psoriasis, eczema, and acne.

French Red Clay – rich in iron oxide, essential trace elements, minerals and therapeutic salts that draws impurities and toxins out of the skin while softening, lightening and refining the skin.  French Red Clay increases the blood flow below the skin increasing oxygen and nutrients to the skin cells leaving your skin feeling and looking rejuvenated.

French Pink Clay – a gentle clay known for drawing out impurities without drying your skin. French Pink Clay is a combination of both red and white clays. It is considered to be the mildest of all the skin types and works well for normal, sensitive and mature skin types.
